Sarah Dugger is a prolific artist working within three inter-related disciplines that she has acquired over the past 25 years.

“I started my professional career in 1996 designing commercial textiles for Nicole Miller, Victoria’s Secret and Pottery Barn in NYC and San Francisco. My time working for industry gave me a valuable skill set within color & concept, point of view, consistency, technical printing techniques and managing large scale projects.

In 2004 I took a break from industry to start a family and settled into a studio space at the Salami Factory in Fairfax, California. I discovered new, creative freedom in fine art painting. I was able to explore abstracted, loose forms and combine or deviate from my inclination toward tight design elements. The idea of creating “one-off” paintings intrigued me after my work in the repetitive print world. My work has been nationally recognized in juried museum and gallery exhibitions since 2017.

In 2016 I fell in with a group of muralists called WallDogs and added large scale mural making to my practice. I found a correlation between the problem solving and project management skills needed to execute large scale artworks and my experience in the textile industry. I enjoy tackling a big wall and continue to take on historical and abstract art murals when the weather in nice.

In 2018 I found myself in an old furniture warehouse studio with two large upholstery tables. I had the itch to start designing and printing textiles again and have been slowly transforming the space into a print studio. I am currently able to print seven yards of fabric, engrave my own screens and am working with a technical pattern maker to develop dress patterns with the goal of creating a namesake label for one-of-a-kind, wearable, printed art pieces. 

I spend my days painting and printing and am very grateful for the gifts and talents I was given in the visual arts.”
